omalia – HANAHR relocates a women human rights defender with the full support of Urgen Action Fund Africa.                                                           

Horn Afrik News Agency for Human Rights (HANAHR) relocates WHRD; Kadija, (HANAHR’s head of feminist litigation based in Juba region, Somalia) to a safe region with the full support of the Urgent Action Fund Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights is a feminist fund that protects, strengthens and sustains women and transgender human rights defenders at critical moments, where as HANAHR is a feminist human rights NGO that promotes, defends and advocates for human rights.

The relocation decision was taken to protect Kadija against deadly threats which came as a direct consequence of her legitimate human rights work in Kismayo, Juba region, Somalia.

Somalia is considered to be one of the most dangerous countries in the world to work as women human rights defender due to the current political and security situation where still the government is battling against al-shabab terrorists.
The un human rights council has described the situation of women human rights defenders in Somalia as deplorable and called for their protection.

The Urgent action fund africa made Kadija’s relocation possible by facilitating the whole process for Kadija to be relocated to a safe region.

HANAHR director urges and calls for the other regional and international human rights organisations to follow the foot steps of Urgent Action Fund Africa in supporting women human rights defenders in Somalia and beyond.
